Institut de Recherche Agronomique de Guinée

IRAG (Institut de Recherche Agronomique de Guinée) is the principal agricultural research institute in Guinea's national agricultural research system.

IRAG has initiated a specific fonio programme at the Bareng agricultural research centre in Fouta Djalon and has been an active participant in previous fonio projects.

As the number one partner and leader of Work Package (WP) 1, IRAG is organising the activities centred on the analysis of production and post-harvest systems.

As co-leader of WP2, IRAG and, in particular, the fonio programme at the Bareng research centre, is participating in the studies on the mechanisation of fonio harvesting and the adaptation and transfer of harvesters and cleaning machinery which meets the needs of producers or village groups.

As Guinea's major partner in the Aval Fonio project, IRAG is responsible for conducting field experiments, implementing socio-economic and field surveys and participates in the analysis of results, the production of reports, the development of guidelines and the organisation of meetings and technical workshops in Guinea.
